World Series Of Poker Is Well Underway

It may not be three card brag but this year’s World Series of Poker is certainly grabbing the gambling headlines at the moment. The 2011 World Series of Poker is well underway, with eight events won, five events underway and a further 46 yet to start. However, this year’s championship is being overshadowed by the recent action taken by the FBI and the US Department of Justice, and the fallout that followed, with numerous high profile names not turning out for the annual poker showcase in Vegas.

Vinnie Jones Plays Three Card Brag

On our hunt to bring you the very latest three card brag news we’ve discovered many high profile three card brag players, one of who is international football player and film star, Vinnie Jones. Vinnie Jones plays three card brag and he can often be found playing in high-profile poker tournaments too but the preferred game for the hard man is brag.

After many years of playing top-level football for a list of clubs that included; Wimbledon, Leeds, Sheffield United, Chelsea and QPR along with an illustrious international career with Wales Jones turned his hand to acting. However from team busses to movie sets Vinnie continued to play cards games such as poker and three card brag with anybody who had a few bob in their pocket.

Wales Rugby Team Were Banned From Playing Three Card Brag

Over the years there have been many stories told about high-stakes three card brag games, many featuring prolific sportsmen so when I heard that the Wales rugby team were banned from playing three card brag back in 1999 I was intrigued.

It was on the tour of Argentina in ’99 in a temperamental tour bus on a hot and dusty country road in South America where we begin our story. The team, which featured players such as Neil Jenkins, Shane Howarth and Colin Charvis, were travelling across a hot and arid Argentina on a bus that found the heat and dust too much of a strain and therefore spent much time parked up cooling down. It was on this laborious journey that a game of three card brag is alleged to have gotten out of hand.

Devilfish Started Life Playing 3 Card Brag

One of the world’s most famous, or should we say notorious, poker players is Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott. Dave hasn’t always been a poker player, Devilfish started life playing 3 card brag at the beginning of a colourful life which has included safe cracking, armed robberies, trips to Vegas, trips to prison and winning a World Series of Poker bracelet. However it was 3 card brag that started Ulliott’s illustrious gambling career at the Fifty-One Club casino in his native Kingston-upon-Hull.

As a child Ulliott used to play poker with his parents and at the age of 16 started playing 3 card brag at the Fifty-One Club, where he would begin his famous career. By the 1990’s Ulliott, along with fellow gambling partner, Gary Whitaker used to travel six nights a week to poker games while at the same time placing bets at William Hill Bookmakers. However, it was Whitaker who had to place the bets due to Ulliott being banned from all William Hill shops after successfully converting £4,000 into £70,000.
